BMR vs TDEE: What's the Difference?

Understanding these two key concepts is crucial for managing your weight.

Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR)

BMR is the energy your body needs at rest. It accounts for about 60–70% of your daily calorie burn.

Total Daily Energy Expenditure (TDEE)

TDEE includes BMR plus all physical activity and the thermic effect of food. It's your total daily calorie burn.

Relationship

TDEE = BMR × Activity Factor. To lose weight, eat less than TDEE. To maintain, eat equal to TDEE. To gain, eat more than TDEE.
